Environment
Ethical concerns are really important to us and we hope they are to you too. All our clothing is sourced from the lovely people at Continental Clothing, from their Earth Positive range. As such they require 90% less carbon in their production* and are both organic and fair trade.
The 90% reduction has been achieved by a combination of low-impact organic farming, efficiency in manufacturing and transportation, and the use of renewable energy instead of fossil fuel-based grid electricity. It has been calculated that a single Earth Positive t-shirt saves around 7kg of CO2, whereas a hooded sweatshirt saves up to 28kg of greenhouse gases. These are actual reductions achieved in the manufacturing, without any carbon offsetting. Sustainable Bamboo The growth cycle of bamboo is totally sustainable. It's an incredible source material for clothing. • Bamboo thrives naturally without using any pesticides or fertilizers. • Bamboo fibre is 100% biodegradable. • Bamboo is one of the the fastest growing plants in the world. • As a grass, bamboo is cut, not uprooted, helping soil stability. • Bamboo grows on hill slopes where nothing else is viable. • The yield you get from an acre of bamboo is 10 times greater than the yield you get from cotton. In an age where land use is under enormous pressure this is huge. Organic cotton Our cotton clothing is 100% organic with a 90% actual reduction in CO2*. The 90% reduction has been achieved by a combination of low-impact organic farming, efficiency in manufacturing and transportation, and the use of renewable energy instead of fossil fuel-based grid electricity. It has been calculated that a single Earth Positive t-shirt saves around 7kg of CO2. These are actual reductions achieved in the manufacturing, without any carbon offsetting. In addition organic cotton: • Uses natural pesticides, keeping pests off the crops, but not destroying their natural predators; • Allows for inter-cropping, with secondary crops grown between and around small plots of cotton and so promotes biodiversity; organic cotton fields contain a significantly higher number of insect species; • Is sustainable as the soils are fertilised with natural organic materials. *The carbon footprint has been calculated in accordance with BSI PAS2050 methodology, and certified by the Carbon Trust. |
